Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Begins $865M Stock Sale Plan
Nvidia’s iconic CEO Jensen Huang has begun selling shares under a pre-arranged plan that could offload up to $865 million worth of stock by year-end. Huang sold 100,000 shares for $14.4 million last week—his first sale under the plan disclosed in Nvidia’s Q1 report. Nvidia board director Mark Stevens offloaded 600,000+ shares for $88M on June 18. Stevens is not using a 10b5-1 plan and has already sold over 2M shares, with a total sale plan of 4M shares.
Why It Matters: He’s worth $126B, almost entirely tied to Nvidia shares. Sales are part of a 10b5-1 plan, a legal structure for executives to sell shares without triggering insider trading concerns or rattling investors. The plan allows up to 6 million shares sold by year-end if he chooses to proceed, based on stock prices. (Read Deeper)
Databricks & Perplexity Co-Founder Pledges $100M To New AI Research Institute
Andy Konwinski, co-founder of Databricks and Perplexity — just pledged $100 million of his own fortune to launch The Laude Institute, a nonprofit aimed at funding AI research that serves humanity, not just profits. Its first flagship grant: $15 million over 5 years to anchor a new AI Systems Lab at UC Berkeley, led by legendary researcher Ion Stoica. Konwinski says Laude is “built by and for computer science researchers,” aiming to fund both “Slingshots” (early-stage, high-potential ideas) and “Moonshots” (ambitious, species-scale efforts like AI for science or health).
Why It Matters: Most AI “research” is now tied to product launches and benchmarks funded by big tech. Laude aims to preserve independence. With massive personal wealth from Databricks’ $62B valuation and Perplexity’s $14B tag, Konwinski is betting on long-term impact over quick returns. (Read Deeper)

Tesla Robotaxi Incidents In Austin Prompt Federal Scrutiny
Tesla's robotaxi rollout in Austin sparked concern after viral videos showed vehicles driving the wrong way and braking erratically. The NHTSA has contacted Tesla over the incidents, as scrutiny mounts on its “FSD Unsupervised” software. The pilot, still limited to invite-only riders, drew sharp contrast to Elon Musk’s long-standing autonomy promises—many of which remain unfulfilled.
Why It Matters: Tesla is facing fresh federal oversight just as it launches a key product tied to its long-term vision. Past promises of 1M robotaxis and coast-to-coast autonomy have yet to materialize, while competitors like Waymo and Baidu are already scaling commercial fleets. (Read Deeper)
U.S. Alleges China’s DeepSeek Is Aiding Military, Evading Chip Sanctions
U.S. officials say Chinese AI startup DeepSeek—praised for building world-class models on a budget, has been secretly aiding China’s military and dodging export rules to acquire banned Nvidia chips, using shell companies in Southeast Asia. Despite its public positioning as an innovative, low-cost AI leader, the U.S. now believes DeepSeek is deeply entangled with the People’s Liberation Army, citing over 150 procurement records linking it to Chinese defense institutions.
Why It Matters: DeepSeek allegedly skirted U.S. sanctions to access H100s, key to powering frontier models. U.S. lawmakers say DeepSeek’s infra may send user data to China via links to China Mobile. The U.S. may soon target DeepSeek with trade blacklists or sanctions—but has not done so yet. (Read Deeper)

Israel Reports Fresh Iranian Missile Strikes Hours After Trump Announces Ceasefire Deal
Just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran to end the 12-day war, Iran launched waves of missiles, killing three people in Beersheba, southern Israel. Tel Aviv also heard explosions. The Israeli military said the attack came in six waves despite Washington-brokered efforts to pause hostilities. ran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi had warned no ceasefire would begin until Israel stopped all aggression, leaving ambiguity about the deal’s implementation.
Why It Matters: The fragility of the ceasefire raises doubts over its enforceability and the true level of coordination between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. If the strikes continue, the region risks slipping back into broader conflict, further destabilizing oil markets, inflaming regional tensions. (Read Deeper)
Nine Killed In Russian Missile And Drone Barrage On Kyiv
Russia launched one of its deadliest airstrikes in weeks, killing at least nine and injuring over 30 in Kyiv early Monday. Residential buildings, hospitals, a university, and metro shelters were hit by 352 drones and 16 missiles, according to Ukraine's air force. Six victims died in a high-rise building. Eyewitnesses described waking up to rubble and fire as explosions rocked the capital. President Zelensky, who traveled to London for talks with UK PM Keir Starmer, called the attacks “deliberate” and “precise.” Ukrainian military leadership vowed retaliation.
Takeaways: Russia is escalating with massive combined drone-missile attacks, designed to overwhelm air defences and target civilian infrastructure. Ukraine’s military says it can’t just defend, and will increase strikes inside Russia. With no peace talks scheduled and diplomatic efforts stalled, the war’s deadliest phase may be accelerating. Greenpeace Slams Jeff Bezos’ Lavish Venice Wedding: “You Can Rent A City, You Can Pay More Tax”
Environmental group Greenpeace and local activists protested what’s been dubbed the “wedding of the century” — the upcoming three-day Venice wedding of billionaire Jeff Bezos and journalist Laura Sanchez. The high-profile celebration is expected to draw 200 A-list guests — including Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner — and cost up to €30 million ($34M). Protesters say Venice is suffering from over-tourism and depopulation, and needs public investment more than celebrity spectacles. (Read More)
